Tubular Or Plate Pasteuriser?

However, in some production lines, both plate pasteurizers and tubular pasteurizers are suitable, so how would you choose? So, please make a choice based on the following factors:


1. Material characteristics

Usually, plate pasteurizers are used for products with low viscosity and excellent fluidity, such as milk, fruit juice drinks, and so on. The Tubular pasteurizer is applied to products with high viscosity but still good flowability, such as tomato sauce, fruit pulp, jam, and so on. Meanwhile, Tubular pasteurizers are widely used in products with particles, and it is generally recommended that the particle size be ≤ 5mm


2. Work cycle

What is the work cycle? The work cycle is the single continuous working time of the pasteurizer. Normally, we recommend conducting a CIP cycle cleaning of the plate pasteurizer every 4-5 hours of operation to ensure sufficient internal cleanliness and maintain efficient heat exchange. However, with the development of mechanical manufacturing technology, the surface cleanliness of plates is increasing, and the working cycle of plate pasteurizers is also extending. The working cycle of the Tubular type pasteurizer exceeds 10 hours, and there is no need to stop and clean it in between.


3. Maintenance and upkeep costs

Both plate pasteurizers and Tubular pasteurizers have some vulnerable parts, mainly including sealing rings and rubber strips. We usually recommend replacing the rubber strip of the plate pasteurizer once a year, which increases the maintenance cost of the machine compared to the Tubular pasteurizer.


4.Floor area of the machine

Normally, for plate and Tubular pasteurizers with the same production capacity, the Tubular type will have a larger footprint. If your workshop space is limited, plate pasteurizers are preferred.


5. The capacity of the production line

The production capacity of plate pasteurizers tends to be small and medium-sized. Our company has designed and manufactured plate pasteurizers for users ranging from 500L/h to 20000L/h. However, Tubular pasteurizers are more inclined towards medium to large production lines, such as from 3000L/h to 35000L/h. Based on the first point above, if a high-capacity production line uses a plate type pasteurizer and the frequency of CIP cleaning is high, the waste of materials will be greater.


6. The procurement cost of the entire machine

Undoubtedly, with the same level of automation, the cost of a Tubular pasteurizer will be much higher than that of a plate pasteurizer.
